Home Sweet Home?

While on the inside, a lot was going on on the outside. A revolution was coming which was fast making us irrelevant in the politics of the hood. New gangs new unwritten policies, new people to the game. I had to get out quick so that the change would not sweep me aside.
Day and Night my boys came to see me especially Ice.
"Dang man, My girl wants to have my baby and i aint read yet" said Ice, one of his visits. "Tell her you aint down for it" i answered. " I love this chic, man! I think i gotta listen to her" He replied.
"That aside i came to tell you that our market at Oluyole", "Things have changed since you got in"
I could not believe those words because Oluyole was our stronghold, the very place i was initiated into the crime world. It had been under our control since we went solo. I was seething with rage. The feeling of pain nsuddenly crept in. I started to understand that all i had worked for was in vain if i was not there to protect it. Crime did not give me the luxury of reaping the fruits of my labour.
"Who are the ring leaders" I demanded, "MY brother.......... Flo" Ice replied, I was shocked beyond deliverance. " FLO" I repeated.

Torre "Flo" Arius was on guy i never liked. Unlike his brother he was born into the money of the hustling. He always watched the hustle around him. Ice loved him so much he never allowed him into the game. From all indications Flo was heady, always disobeying and getting into trouble. Since the divorce and departure of their parents Ice had always been a father, mother and a brother to Flo. Because of his intense love for Flo, Ice never took lightly any of his misdemeanors.

But the hood is the hood. Game still the game. Fuck ups had to be treated even if the culprit is your brother.

REVENGE

Revenge that was all we could think of. The fact that Chrissy was no more was unbearable. To make matters worse his Widowed Mother did not allow us to attend the burial because she said we were the ones who led her son astray, which was partly true. But Chrissy always had a rough edge to himself.

Act we must and fast it had to be. We waited patiently for the slightest provocation from the FOXES. They sensed our strategy and decided to wait out the storm. At last our chance came this time they hijacked a deal from us. That was enough provocation. As in our former days with CYCLOPS we went alone just the five of us, armed to the teeth and ready to destroy. We got to the hideout, this time it was Ice who rang out the battle cry calling out their leader Biodun a.k.a. Carnage. Without waiting for his reply we swung into action. We destroyed just about everything in sight. We maimed, we impaled, we most likely killed, we unleashed the terror we were once known for. We burnt down their cars, destroyed furniture and more. Being the son of a notable personality in the city Biodun decided to call for police help.

We heard the Police sirens from afar of, but consumed by the passion to teach them a lesson we ignore it. When it became obvious that we had to run away decided to but there was a problem we had keep the Police preoccupied. I volunteered to do that. Trusting my abilities the rest run of while i kept the Police busy. At the end of it i got arrested and thus egan my travail in jail. Day and night they tortured me to rt out the other members of my gang. I refused to be broken because of the love i had for them all. Nothing was going to make me be the weak link in our tight chain of brotherhood. Ice and the boys came to visit me several times feeling guilty that i was left alone but i woud not allow any of it. I knew it was only a matter of time before I got out.

FOXES

They were everywhere. They had eyes at all corners it seemed. For a moment we thought we had lost all our power to them. Then came the time that our parts did cross.
About a week before this incident we had concluded deals with some yahoo guys to sell their merchandise. the merchandise was worth about 850,000 naira. This by far one of our highest deals ever so we were very prepared. On this fateful day, we were in Ice's apartment waiting for the guys that were to deliver the goods to us. when they took too long we decided to break protocol and call them. The news we received was shocking, the FOXES had waylaid them and taken all the merchandise away. We went mad pictures of our glory days as a ruthless hit squad came back to us we were determined to give the FOXES a dose of their own medicine.

Armed to the teeth and with enough back up from another sister mercenary group, we headed out for the FOXES' hide out at night. When we got there, there was noise of partying in the place, They were celebrating their victory but not for long. POW!! two gunshots rang in the air as Ice shot into the air. Everywhere everyone scampered for safety being gentlemen we allowed all the girls around to run outside the compound to their homes, it remained just us and the FOXES. Ever quick and agile Chrissy jumped on one of them and began to beat the living daylight out of him. AS though everyone was waiting for who would make the first move, full scale fighting began. No mercy was sought neither was any given it was fight to the finish. Many a time I remember that day and cry for the lives that were wasted and those that were maimed. I can remember a particular one of the FOXES who could not be more than 16 yrs at the time look into my eyes as i beat him to pulp and saying please forgive me and faint in my arms. To this day i have never forgiven myself for not stopping.

We left that day feeling victorious, not knowing that death was around the corner for one of us. At exactly 2.30pm the next day while we were coming back from Ice's place, Chrissy was gunned down by two power bikers who came charging at us. To this day we do not know their identities but we know who sent them. This prompted us to be more alert and vigilant but even that could not protect us from the impending dangers of the days to come.

This time when the FOXES crossed our part again we decided to crush them for good

CYCLOPS

They were very other gangs nightmare. If you crossed the line you went down. Everyone tread softly around them. Their leader Dolapo a.k.a CALYPSO was a terror, feared by many loved by few, respected by all. I for one wanted to be like him. He had the whole area under his control. The power Calypso got for himself was too much for him to handle so he spread his territory amongst is close associates. Myself and my clique of friends, Ice (Pablo Arius), Christopher Emecheta(chrissy), Bond (Bode Adepoju), Lanre Akeju (Lance), Bayo Walter (Bayou), decided to join CYCLOPS. Our purpose was to climb up the ladder of authority not just be members for the name sake. Ice being the more rugged of the lot of us was more open to the procedures of the gang. Ice was also the oldest of us.

Within 2 months, we all had become soldiers thanks to Ice's mentoring and help. As soldiers we were required to do most of the dirty work of the gang. Like stickups, gang bangs, busting whosoever messed up and the like of it. Gradually we gained a reputation for our thoroughness and we instituted as a arm of the overall operation. As lords of our art we learnt one invaluable truth that as being true to me ever since: The heat is not worth it if you can't stop or cope with it.

We dodged bullets on a regular. We got jumped by other gangs occasionally and we always reacted as usual thoroughly. Our ruthlessness and precision in treating fuck ups was legendary throughout the city underworld. Then came yahoo-yahoo (Internet fraud).

At the time, the guys involved in the fraud bought stuff online with jacked credit cards and gave it to the gang to sell. Knowing the wide reach and market of the gang. Also the gang didn't only sell stolen stuff they sold drugs too.

Knowing how powerful we had become we decided to leave CYCLOPS before they found a way to get rid of us. After thinking of a way to make us still relevant in the game and close every avenue that CYCLOPS might use to crush us we then decided to be mercenaries. Since the did not have people who were as good as we were we also decided to make ourselves much more relevant by opening up our services to all, giving our services to the highest bidder. We did all from dogging, treating fuck ups to transporting and selling merchandise and the likes.

Then came the rise of the FOXES a group of renegades with one mission to crush us. This was to be the beginning of a war that saw one of us die and all of us cry.

In the beginning 1

Where i grew up, there were gangs all around. Some were stronger that the other. There had been generations of different leaderships in this gangs and only a few of them survived the changes in leadership.
The strongest of them at the time was called C.D.V(chef de vir). This gang had members in my sec. school. They were ruthless but nonetheless the most envied gang of all because of the carriage and presence wherever. This gang had spanned over 25 years and had grown stronger with each new leadership. When i came into my own I decided to pledge to C.D.V, but this was not to be. Later that year, there was a schism within the gang and it lead to the formation of two rival gangs. Trenchcoat Mafia and Cyclops. The Trenchcoat Mafia was made up of the most ruthless of the former C.D.V. Single handedly, The Trenchcoat Mafia, finished off C.D.V thus ending their 25 year reign.
But this development only created room for the rise of a new power

Life in Prison 4

The Invincible ME. What was i thinking? Did i really think that Long John would fold his arms while i destroyed all the respect he had taken many years to build if if i thought so i was mistaken. It was as though he had been given revelation that the particular week we were in was to be my last week in prison. “You think say you fit run away” “I talk am say everyday for the thief one day for the owner” Jon said. “What do you want this time” i retorted. Confidence welled up within me. I felt I could take on John anytime and anyhow. “Dagger, teach this boy a lesson he will never forget”. Before Knew what was happening Dagger had pour raw pepper into my eyes . The pain i felt in my eyes was great. At that instant i knew that i was done for. Wham! came the first slap. Then a follow up from John himself. Then followed a torrent of slaps kicks and punches. Not wanting to go out without a fight I decided to fight back. A side step without seeing where was all the space i needed. Whack! was all i heard next Frostie had come to my rescue as soon as i was able to side step. Slow did not come. He was careful because of the bad experience he had when he last fought John. Frostie and I were the only ones who fought John and his boys. Because of number we were overcome but for brawn we were superior. That night nursed a swollen eye. “ha ha ha” rang John laughter in the hall way. That night i thought up many ways to avenge myself of John. That revenge was not to be. On the 3rd of September theCourt decided to grant me parole. Being a freeman for a moment as i was leaving the prison yard did not mean much because I was of double minds. I would miss my new found friend Frostie who in himself was not a bad person and I would never be avenged of John.

Life in prison 3

After the encounter with Long John, I was devastated. When Frostie came out from confinement, he could not believe his ears when he was told what happened during his absence. He lashed out at me. This was to hard for me to bear. I decided from that day to prepare for another sow down with John. Frostie had agreed that their will be another challenge and this time i had better be ready because i would be the one to fight again. The next day my Lawyer cam around, he told me that he was talking to the Judge about letting me get out earlier and i should be of good behaviour. Coupled with the fact that i had already been involved with a fight in the prison i thought about the whole good behaviour thing and decide that whatever it would cost me to see Long John eat his own shit i would do.
My waiting was not to be for long. Three days after my lawyer’s visit, Dagger, one of John’s boys came to our part of the yard and wanted to boss us around. I immediately took charge and lead the assault on Dagger. When he returned to John, we had already decided on how we were going to execute the fight. With Dagger leading the charge of John’s boys, I could already smell victory. Wham! came Dagger’s punch across my face. I steeled myself against its effect and immediately replied with a torrent of slaps and punches. Not allowing him a minutes breath, I quickly made mince meat of him. I was so overcome with emotion that i did not notice that the fighting had ended. I continued dealing blows on Dagger’s face. Whack! was the only sound i heard on my head, next thing i was in a strait jacket in a padded room. I woke with a throbbing headache.
The fact that i was in the padded room did not dim my joy of knowing that i had proved my mettle and John now knew that i was nobody’s bitch. Smiling to myself i slept off with dreams of victory. “Wake up, mad dog”, the warden had come to wake me. because of my peaceful disposition the warden on duty decided to let me out of the confinement. On getting to the prison yard, everyone including Frostie and Slow gave me a rousing welcome. “Power Mike”, “Strong man”, “James Bond”…… and other names were accorded me on, my return. “One Monkey go go market, e no go come back” that was John’s comment, ” Everyday is for the thief one is for the owner, It’s your time enjoy it”. I could not care less about his remarks because he knew as much as i knew that it would take something greater than John himself to make me afraid of him again. A new me was born. A ME that even John and his Henchmen could not stop. I was INVINCIBLE……. or so i thought

Life in prison 2

I lived in fear of the day that John would finally get his revenge. The day of my suffering was indeed not too far away. WE were all in the yard trying to make the best use of our rec time. Everyone was in groups hanging out with your boys. In the prison there were gang alliances so you had to be in one of ‘em gangs to hang out with them. Cuz of the events of the other day Frostie’s boys took me under their wings. Mighty Jay entered in his usual way to the yard instilling fear into the hearts of everyone around. HE then started walking towards me that same instant as he got there. I was afraid. There was this practice of challenging anyone in any gang/group and whosoever won from either group earned the respect of the other gang until the next challenge. One of John’s boys challenged me this meant that if lost to him Frostie’s Gang would become powerless to John’s, and this, Frostie would never allow to happen. I could not decline the fight so i had to fight or risk being called a sissy. Everyone was chanting the sun was blazing hot, tension building, my heart beating and no hoe within me of winning. Wham he landed a punch on my face . IT was like i was in hell’s depth i could’nt feel my face. Then another punch, then another a kick a slap another punch. It all happened so fast i could not even throw a single punch. Before one could say RUMPELSTILSKIN i was wasted. The sun blazing in my face, the heat sinking into my skin. I could not believe it this was my chance to establish my respect yet i went out like a wimp. I could not cry, no sound came out of my mouth. n e of Frostie’s boy’s came to pick me up shame did not allow me to look into his face. “It’s alright”, “Life na turn by turn, this na im turn make you no worry. One day monkey go go market e no go come back”. Those were the words he said to me. Yet i still felt that i had let them down. Frostie and Slow were released later that day. n hearing the news Frostie came at me with every venom in his vocabulary. The pain of hearing Frostie’s angry words killed my spirit. I had let him down. John had a filled day that night. from his cell i could hear him cussing out at me. I was furious i just wanted to wring the life out of him oat that moment. Finally as the day grew darker and the spells of night sleep began to take their effect i heard him say ” one - one, i told you i would score”. His “goal” to me was like a hat trick. He had hit his target. HARD

Life in prison 1

This are my memoir during my stay in prison. For more and the complete book of my memoirs called "The Cell Experience" send me an email on: magelofglint@yahoo.ca or magelofglint@gmail.com. Thank you read on. This sneak peak is just as interesting as the full book

In June 2005, I was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for arson, assault and attempted murder. My sentence was lenient because i was a first offender and as of the time i committed the crime i was under-aged. I ended up spending 3 months of the term in jail and the rest 15 months on parole based on good behaviour. As soon as I got out, I found out a very bitter truth. The truth was that the moment people know that you have been to jail you become a social outcast. I struggled with the situation of rejection for a long time before I decided on the best thing to do which was to live right so that everyone could see that I was different.

“Get up you scallywag”, “It’s time for you animals to work”. That was a typical morning back in prison. The warder always woke us up by about 4:30 in the mornings by my calculation except Saturdays and Sundays. We would immediately without further “persuasion” begin to troop out like worker ants. Everyone scurrying to do his portion of work.

Upon conviction i was taken to a remand home for juvenile offenders. Due to over-crowding in the cells, i was transferred to a maximum security prison facility. The facility was hell. The work or the insults of the wardens were not the problem but thoughts of home and the other inmates were the main troubles. The chief of my problems was a particular inmate called Long John.

He was a slender, mean looking man who had slits, as it were, rather than eyeballs for eyes. He was every prisoner’s nightmare. If he whistle you danced to his tune, this i mean literally. IF he wanted to pee your body served as a toilet for him. Long john or Mighty Jay as he was referred to had been convicted severally of arson, gang rape, breaking and entry, arms possession e.t.c and this was his fourth time in prison and the second year of his recent sentence. The wardens knew this and feared him like a cobra. To add to it he was an incurable sodomistic wretch. If he wanted you he got you. NO questions asked, just simple complete obedience. His “harem” had about 3 boys my age at that time. He had sex with them at anytime he wanted calling them his sweet little things.

On my arrival it was obvious to all that his attention would shift to me. Frostie(as he was called) who was my ally through out my three month stay, quickly informed me about John. Being a dogged fighter, I chose to take on John at anytime by any means necessary and i meant by any means necessary.

My first encounter with Long John caused Frostie and Slow (another of my allies) a lot of trouble. Mighty Jay came to me on my fourth Sunday at the facility. He said ” Hey green boy( a name used for new inmates)” “i wanna fuck you”. I decided to ignore him. Whack! was the next sound I heard John hit me across the face. Being the bull I lunged at his throat with my hands. ON hearing the noise, all he other inmates who were around the bath area, came running in. Seeing both of us wrestling on the floor and knowing that John being bigger would make mince meat of me, Frostie kicked out at John’s ribs. Sensing that the odds were against John the inmates loyal to Mighty Jay attacked us this provoked a response from Frostie’s boys. The guard came running in with clubs. Soon they had every body under control. But Frostie and Slow had completely lost it they kept on kicking at John. They were given the strait jacket and put in isolation for three days without food. John though injured looked up at me and said “One - Zero”, ” I’ll soon score”. I believed him. I knew it was only a matter of time before he did score. He would come after me. And with Frostie and Slow out, I knew i stood no chance against John…………Long John
